Bank Holiday Today:
October 7, 2025, marks Maharshi Valmiki Jayanti, a day of great cultural and literary importance in India. To honour the legendary sage Valmiki the author of Ramayana and known as the ‘Adi Kavi’ (first poet) several Indian states have declared a bank holiday on this day. The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has confirmed that banks in selected regions will remain closed.
As per the official RBI calendar, banks in Karnataka, Odisha, Chandigarh, and Himachal Pradesh will not operate on October 7, Tuesday. These states also celebrate Kumar Purnima, a regional festival observed with devotion and joy. Due to these celebrations, state governments have announced holidays for government offices, schools, colleges, and banks.
However, in other states like Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, and Delhi, banks will remain open. Regular services such as cheque clearing, cash transactions, and customer support will function as usual. Therefore, people in these regions can carry out their financial activities without any interruption.
When it comes to the stock markets, both the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) and the National Stock Exchange (NSE) will function normally on October 7. Though trading might be relatively slow due to holidays in some states, there is no official market closure. The next trading holiday for both stock exchanges will be on October 21, 2025, for the festival of Diwali.
Businesses that rely on banking operations in the holiday-affected states are advised to plan ahead. Completing necessary financial transactions like fund transfers and deposits before October 7 can help avoid any inconvenience.
Despite the closure of physical branches, digital banking services such as UPI, internet banking, and mobile apps will continue to work without interruption. Customers can easily perform essential transactions online even on the bank holiday.
In summary, October 7 is a regional holiday for Maharshi Valmiki Jayanti in some states, while banks and markets in the rest of the country will operate as usual.
