Bank Holiday Today on September 23 In These States

Bank Holiday Today on September 23 In These States

Bank Holiday Today:

On September 23, banks in Jammu and Srinagar are closed to mark the birth anniversary of Maharaja Hari Singh Ji, the last ruler of Jammu and Kashmir. This day is celebrated locally, so it is not a holiday across the entire country. Both public and private banks in these two cities will remain shut as per the schedule released by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI).

Bank Holiday Today:

Every year, the RBI issues a list of bank holidays which considers national festivals, local celebrations, religious events, and regional occasions. These holidays vary from state to state and city to city. In addition to specific holidays, banks across India remain closed on all Sundays, as well as the second and fourth Saturdays of every month.

For September 2025, the RBI has announced multiple holidays. Apart from today’s holiday in Jammu and Srinagar, banks will also remain closed on September 27 and 28 (fourth Saturday and Sunday). Earlier this month, closures were observed on September 18 in Jammu and Srinagar for Unitarian Anniversary Day, and on September 22 in Jaipur for Navratra Sthapna. Later this month, banks in eastern and northeastern states will also close on September 29 for Maha Saptami and on September 30 for Maha Ashtami/Durga Ashtami.

Even though physical bank branches are closed during holidays, customers need not worry in case of urgent requirements. ATMs, mobile banking, internet banking, and UPI services continue to work normally. People can carry out money transfers, bill payments, and cash withdrawals as usual. However, services like cheque clearance or in-branch transactions will resume only on the next working day.

Maharaja Hari Singh Ji, remembered for his role as the last Dogra ruler of Jammu and Kashmir, holds a significant place in the region’s history. His birth anniversary has been officially declared a public holiday in Jammu and Kashmir, and government offices, schools, and banks follow the closure.

In short, if you are in Jammu or Srinagar today, physical bank branches will remain closed, but online services are still active. Customers across other parts of India will see no change in banking operations on September 23.
