BCCI Under Fire as Desi Drohi for India Pakistan Asia Cup Clash

India Pakistan Asia Cup:

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) recently announced the Indian squad for the 2025 Asia Cup, set to take place in the UAE from September 9 to 28. The much-awaited matches will be held in the T20 format. However, the announcement has sparked controversy especially over the exclusion of India’s Test captain Shreyas Iyer who has faced disappointment.

India Pakistan Asia Cup:

The selection committee, headed by Chief Selector Ajit Agarkar and BCCI Secretary Devajit Saikia finalized the 15-member team. Surya Kumar Yadav, the T20 captain, was confirmed, while Shubman Gill was appointed as vice-captain for the T20 format.

One of the most contentious moments is the scheduled India vs. Pakistan match on September 14 which has raised concerns among fans. Many have expressed their desire for the match to be called off due to the ongoing political tensions between the two nations. However, the BCCI backed by current ICC Chairman Jay Shah has insisted that the match will proceed. This decision has led to intense criticism with some accusing Jay Shah of prioritizing financial gains over national sentiments as he is seen as pushing for the match to be held despite objections.

The selection committee and BCCI have faced accusations of betrayal for allowing such a high profile match to occur amidst the volatile situation between India and Pakistan. The argument is that the BCCI’s green signal to host this match compromises national pride especially considering the security concerns that have been raised after the Pahalgam attack. Hence Desi Drohi BCCI hash tag is trending on X.

The Asia Cup has two groups. India, Pakistan, UAE, and Oman are in Group A. Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Afghanistan, and Hong Kong are in Group B. India will face Pakistan on September 14. Both teams may meet again in the Super 4 or final. Many senior cricketers protested and asked the BCCI to reconsider the clash. The governing body has stayed firm on its stance.

The situation started a debate on whether players should play cricket in politically charged times. Many people believe national interest should come first.
