Blood Moon Lunar Eclipse 2025: Date, Time, and How to Watch in India

Blood Moon Lunar Eclipse 2025:

On the night of September 7, 2025, the sky will host a rare and beautiful event – a total lunar eclipse, popularly called the Blood Moon. During this time, the Moon will not disappear but instead glow in a deep red shade, giving viewers a spectacular celestial sight.

What is a Blood Moon Lunar Eclipse 2025:

A Blood Moon happens when the Earth comes directly between the Sun and the Moon, covering the Moon with its shadow. Instead of going completely dark, the Moon appears red because sunlight passes through Earth’s atmosphere. The atmosphere filters out blue light and allows red and orange light to reach the Moon’s surface. This effect, known as Rayleigh scattering, is the same reason sunsets look reddish.

Date and Timings

The September 2025 Blood Moon will be visible across most of India and other parts of the world.

Eclipse begins: 8:58 PM IST (September 7)

Total eclipse (peak red phase): 11:00 PM – 12:22 AM IST

Eclipse ends: 1:25 AM IST (September 8)

The total phase, lasting more than an hour, will be the best time to see the Moon in its crimson glow.

Best Places to Watch in India

Major cities like Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Hyderabad, Pune, Lucknow, and Chandigarh will offer a clear view if the weather is favorable. To get the best experience, try to watch from an open area with less light pollution, such as rooftops, terraces, or fields.

How to Watch Safely

Unlike solar eclipses, a lunar eclipse is safe to view with the naked eye. No special glasses are needed. For a better view:

Use binoculars or a telescope for details on the lunar surface.

Photographers can use a tripod with long exposure to capture the red glow.

Check weather forecasts to ensure clear skies.

Why This Eclipse is Special

The 2025 Blood Moon is unique because of its wide visibility across India and its long duration. For millions of people, it will be a shared experience to remember. Apart from its beauty, this eclipse also provides scientists an opportunity to study Earth’s atmosphere, as the shade of red depends on dust and pollution levels.

This celestial event is expected to be one of the most memorable sights of the decade.
