Boney Kapoor Fights Legal Battle Over Sridevi’s Chennai Farmhouse over Heirship Claims

Boney Kapoor Takes Legal Action Over Sridevi’s Property

Bollywood producer Boney Kapoor has approached the Madras High Court, challenging a claim made on a Chennai farmhouse once owned by his late wife, legendary actress Sridevi. The legal dispute revolves around a legal heirship certificate obtained by three individuals who claim partial ownership of the property. Kapoor has alleged that the trio claiming to be the second wife and children of one of the original landowners secured the certificate fraudulently to stake a claim on the farmhouse that Sridevi purchased in 1988.

The Property Dispute Explained

According to Kapoor, Sridevi bought the farmhouse in April 1988 from MC Sambanda Mudaliar’s family. At the time of the sale, the land had already been divided through a mutual agreement among Mudaliar’s three sons and two daughters in 1960. Based on this agreement, Sridevi legally registered the property in her name. The current petition challenges a legal heirship certificate obtained by the three claimants, who insist they have an undivided share in the land through familial rights. Kapoor’s plea claims the certificate is fake and should be canceled.

Court Orders Tahsildar to Act

Justice N. Anand Venkatesh, who is hearing the case, has now directed the Tambaram Taluk Tahsildar to investigate the matter and take a decision within four weeks. Boney Kapoor had filed the writ petition earlier this year, in April.

Remembering Sridevi

The legal battle comes shortly after what would have been Sridevi’s 62nd birthday. Boney Kapoor paid tribute to his late wife on Instagram with a heartfelt post: “Yes, you are not 62 today. You are 26. Happy birthday; we are still reliving all your happy birthdays.” Sridevi, hailed as India’s first female superstar, left behind a powerful cinematic legacy across Tamil, Telugu, and Hindi films. She was posthumously awarded the National Award for her final film, Mom, and remains deeply loved by fans.
