Govt Earns ₹800 Crore from Scrap: More Than Chandrayaan-3 Cost

800 Crores From Scrap: During a big cleanliness blitz last month, the Narendra Modi government made a substantial Rs 800 crore from the sale of scrap. This is far more than the budget of Chandrayaan-3, which safely landed on the moon for Rs 615 crore. According to media reports, the government has made around Rs 4,100 crore from the sale of waste since the yearly campaign started in 2021.


How did the Government earn 800 Crores From Scrap?

This year’s program, which took place from October 2 to October 31, freed up the most workplace space ever, 232 lakh square feet, and eliminated the greatest number of physical files, 29 lakh. With about 11.58 lakh office locations, this was also the biggest exercise in terms of scope.


Effective inter-ministerial coordination between 84 ministries and departments, including missions overseas, was accomplished under the auspices of the Department of Administrative Reforms and Public Grievances (DAR&PG). The entire process was supervised by three senior ministers: Dr. Jitendra Singh, K Ram Mohan Naidu, and Mansukh Mandaviya.

The Center has run five effective special initiatives between 2021 and 2025 that have reduced government pendency and institutionalized swachhata (cleanliness). A total of 23.62 lakh offices were covered under the “Swachhata” campaign, 928.84 lakh square feet of space were freed, 166.95 lakh files were eliminated or closed, and Rs 4,097.24 crore was made from the sale of scrap.

This year, a ministerial review meeting on lowering the pendency of public grievances was held, along with regular staff interactions and a review of the campaign by cabinet ministers and ministers of state from several ministries. Ministries have been urged to perform under the special campaign by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
