Cheers to That! Scotch Whisky to Get Cheaper in India Thanks to UK Trade Deal

Cheers to That! Scotch Whisky to Get Cheaper in India Thanks to UK Trade Deal

Whisky First: India Slashes Tariffs on British Spirits

Scotch lovers in India have reason to raise a toast with new trade deal. The India-UK Free Trade Agreement (FTA) will significantly cut import duties on Scotch whisky, making premium bottles much more affordable.

Currently, imported Scotch faces a massive 150% tariff. With the new FTA, this duty will drop to 75% immediately. Over the next 10 years, it will fall further to just 40%. This reduction could reshape India’s whisky market and put more UK spirits on Indian shelves.

Trade Deal : Luxury Cars to Drive In to Indian Garages

British luxury cars are also about to get cheaper. Customs duties on certain UK-made cars, which now exceed 100%, will fall to just 10% under a special import quota system.

This shift could make iconic British brands like Jaguar Land Rover, Bentley, and Rolls-Royce more accessible. While details of the quotas are still emerging, the goal is clear: boost availability and affordability of UK autos in India.

Cheaper Chocolates, Cosmetics, and More

Beyond whisky and cars, Indian consumers can expect price drops across everyday UK goods. Chocolates, biscuits, soft drinks, and cosmetics from Britain will become more competitively priced due to reduced import duties.

British skincare and personal care brands, long popular in India, could now offer better value. Lower tariffs will give Indian shoppers more options and better prices on imported UK items.

Healthcare Tech Gets a Boost

The FTA also benefits India’s healthcare sector. Advanced British medical devices and health-tech tools will now be easier and cheaper to import. This could improve access to high-end medical technology in hospitals and clinics.

Big Picture: Better Prices, More Choices

India will reduce or eliminate tariffs on 90% of UK goods, with 85% becoming tariff-free over the next decade. Average duties on UK imports will fall from 15% to just 3%. The result? Better prices, more variety, and a win for Indian consumers.
