Chevella Road Accident: 17 Dead After Lorry – RTC Bus Collision

Chevella Road Accident: A tragic accident occurred in Rangareddy district on the Hyderabad–Bijapur National Highway. A speeding lorry collided with a passenger bus coming from the opposite direction, leaving 17 people dead and several others critically injured.


According to reports, a tipper carrying a load of gravel crashed into an RTC bus belonging to the Tandur depot near Mirjaguda in Chevella mandal. The gravel load fell onto the bus, trapping several passengers inside. Among the 17 victims were the tipper driver and many passengers, while several others sustained serious injuries.

Police and rescue teams rushed to the spot and began rescue operations immediately. Those trapped under the gravel were pulled out with great effort. Around 70 passengers were reportedly on the bus, most of them students from various colleges in Hyderabad returning home after the Sunday holiday. The injured were shifted to nearby hospitals for treatment.

The accident caused a massive traffic jam on the Hyderabad–Bijapur Highway, halting vehicular movement for nearly two hours. With the help of cranes, both vehicles were moved to the roadside, and traffic gradually resumed.

Initial investigations revealed the mishap due to the lorry driver’s overspeeding. Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy expressed deep grief over the tragedy and directed officials to rush to the spot and carry out relief operations. The CM instructed the Chief Secretary and DGP to ensure that the injured are shifted to Hyderabad and provided with the best possible medical care.
