Cyclone Montha Makes Landfall in Andhra Pradesh with Wind Speeds of 100 kmph

Cyclone Montha made landfall Tuesday at late night hours, on the coast of Andhra Pradesh, with wind speed measuring in the range of 100 km, and heavy rains have fallen in several of the districts. The India Meteorological Department stated that the cyclone had strengthened into a very severe system prior to touching down. As such, high waves are pounding the shore, and stern warnings have been issued to fishermen not to venture into the sea until conditions improve.

Heavy Rains, Power Cuts Evacuations.


Prakasam, Nellore, Krishna, and Guntur districts reported uprooted trees, damaged electrical lines, and severe waterlogging in many low-lying areas. Thousands of residents were moved to safer locations ahead of landfall, according to the State Disaster Management Authority (SDMA).

Rescue and relief operations are being undertaken by the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF). Power restoration and clearance of fallen trees are currently underway in affected areas.

IMD Red Alert and Safety Precaution

The Indian Meteorological Department issued a red alert on the coast of Andhra because heavy to very heavy rains are anticipated in the next 24 hrs. The citizens are required to stay indoors, not use the coastal road, and pay attention to updates from local authorities. The storm is going to weaken gradually while moving toward Telangana, bringing along moderate rainfall.
