World-renowned fashion designer Giorgio Armani has died at the age of 91. Armani passed away due to age-related illness, according to a statement from the Armani Group released on Thursday. He had been unwell for some time. Known as “Re Giorgio” or “King Giorgio,” He was a giant in the fashion world. He helped shape modern Italian style with elegance, simplicity, and structure-free designs that became his trademark.
Armani started his career in fashion in the 1960s, but it was in the 1970s and ’80s that he made a global impact. He founded the Armani brand in 1975 and went on to build an empire that redefined power dressing.
His signature style clean lines, neutral colors, and unstructured suits became iconic, especially in Hollywood. Stars like Richard Gere and Julia Roberts wore his designs, bringing him worldwide fame. He was also a perfectionist. Brand was known to personally oversee every detail, from ad campaigns to even fixing models’ hair backstage.
Beyond being a designer, Armani was a powerful businessman. He kept full control of his fashion house, which generates over €2.3 billion in annual revenue. He resisted selling his brand, choosing to keep it independent in an era of major fashion mergers. Even in his 90s, he remained active. Until earlier this year, he had never missed a fashion show. His absence from Milan Men’s Fashion Week in June was the first time in his long career that he wasn’t present a sign of his declining health.
