Red Alert in Andhra Pradesh: The deep depression over the southeast and southwest Bay of Bengal has intensified into a cyclonic storm called “Montha,” according to the India Meteorological Department’s (IMD) 25th bulletin, which was released at 2.24 a.m. on Monday.
In the recent announcement by the India Meteorological Department (IMD), they stated that “The cyclonic storm, which was named as ‘Montha’, which was over the southwest and southeast of the Bay of Bengal, has now moved towards the northwest at a speed of 16kmph over the past three hours. The lay centered at 02.30 hrs IST of today, the 27th October 2025, over the same area, near latitude 11.7°N & longitude 85.5°E, approximately 600 km east-southeast of Chennai (Tamil Nadu), 680 km south-southeast of Kakinada (Andhra Pradesh), 710 km south-southeast of Visakhapatnam (Andhra Pradesh), 790 km west of Port Blair (Andaman & Nicobar Islands), and 850 km south of Gopalpur (Odisha).
According to the sources, in the next twelve hours, the storm is going to move towards west-northwest across the Bay of Bengal. It is expected that this storm is going to grow even stronger with the speed of 90 to 110 Kmph by the morning of October 28th as it moves completely towards north-northwest of the Bay of Bengal. The effect of this storm might be in Kakinada, between Machilipatnam and Kalingapatnam.

Red & Yellow Alerts in Andhra Pradesh:
Because of the cyclonic storm, the IMD has issued red and orange advisories for 23 of Andhra Pradesh’s 26 districts. SPSR Nellore, Prakasam, Bapatla, Krishna, West Godavari, Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Konaseema, and Kakinada districts have all issued red alerts. The weather service predicts “heavy to very heavy rainfall” over the region on Monday, placing the remaining districts, aside from Anantapur, Kurnool, and Sri Sathya Sai, under orange alert. The IMD warned that extremely heavy rains are anticipated to occur in the red-alert districts.
Red Zones in Odisha:
In the meantime, the Red Zone designation has been applied to Malkangiri, Koraput, Rayagada, Ganjam, Gajapati, Kandhamal, Kalahandi, and Nabarangpur in Odisha. Up till October 28, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, and coastal Karnataka are expected to see heavy to extremely heavy rainfall. According to the IMD, cyclone Montha will continue to affect Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Odisha, and Chhattisgarh till October 30.
