ICMR Approves India’s First Malaria Vaccine for 5 Pharma Firms

First Malaria Vaccine:
Malaria has been one of the biggest health problems in India, affecting lakhs of people every year. Many people lose their lives because of the severe effects of the disease. Now, there is a major step forward in the fight against malaria. The Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) has given licenses to five pharmaceutical companies to produce India’s first multi-stage malaria vaccine, named AdFalciVax.

First Malaria Vaccine:
According to reports, the vaccine has been developed to stop the spread of the deadliest malaria parasite, Plasmodium falciparum. This parasite is responsible for most malaria-related deaths worldwide. The vaccine works by stopping the infection in its early stage so that it does not spread further in the body.

ICMR had earlier invited applications from different companies for technology transfer (ToT). After carefully reviewing the proposals, five companies were chosen. These include:

Indian Immunologicals Limited
TechInvention Lifecare Pvt. Ltd.
Panacea Biotec Limited
Biological E Limited
Zydus Lifesciences

These companies will now work on developing, producing, and making the vaccine available for public use. The vaccine is based on advanced technology using Lactococcus lactis, which makes it effective in blocking the malaria parasite at multiple stages.

This vaccine is a big achievement because it is the first indigenous malaria vaccine developed in Bhubaneswar by ICMR. It is expected to play an important role in reducing malaria cases in India and saving thousands of lives every year.

Along with the malaria vaccine, ICMR has also granted licenses for vaccines against Salmonella and Shigella, two bacteria that cause serious infections.

Health experts believe that AdFalciVax could be a game-changer for India’s public health system. With the help of these five companies, the vaccine can soon reach people across the country. If implemented successfully, India can take a big step closer to eliminating malaria in the coming years.
