India vs Pakistan Asia Cup 2025: No Handshake Sparks Controversy

India vs Pakistan Asia Cup:
The India vs Pakistan Asia Cup 2025 match in Dubai ended not only with India’s strong win but also with a major controversy. After the game, Indian captain Suryakumar Yadav and his team chose not to take part in the usual post-match handshakes with Pakistan. This unusual move immediately drew attention from fans, experts, and officials.

India vs Pakistan Asia Cup:

India defeated Pakistan by seven wickets in the Group A match. Normally, after such games, both teams exchange handshakes as a sign of respect. But this time, the Indian players celebrated among themselves and directly walked into their dressing room. The Pakistani players waited for them, but the handshake never happened.

When asked about the decision, Suryakumar Yadav explained that “some things in life are above sportsman’s spirit.” He said the win was dedicated to the victims of the Pahalgam terror attack and to the Indian armed forces who carried out military operations earlier this year. According to Yadav, this was a symbolic stand, supported by both the Indian government and the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).

Reports later revealed that the match referee Andy Pycroft had already advised both captains to avoid shaking hands at the toss before the match began. Officials also allowed India to skip the post-match handshake, but the Pakistan side was not informed, which led to an awkward situation.

Pakistan’s captain Salman Agha and his teammates expressed disappointment. Pakistan’s team manager filed a protest, while head coach Mike Hesson said they were ready to shake hands but the Indian players had already left. Agha even skipped his post-match media duties to show his displeasure.

The Asian Cricket Council (ACC) chairman, Mohsin Naqvi, criticized the incident, calling it “disappointing” and saying politics should not be brought into sports.

Despite the controversy, India has almost confirmed its place in the Super Four stage of the tournament. Pakistan must win its next game against the UAE to keep its chances alive. If both teams progress, cricket fans could see another high-tension India vs Pakistan clash very soon.
