India’s passport has made a significant leap in the Henley Passport Index, rising from 85th to 77th position. This is the largest jump globally, climbing eight spots in just six months. Indian passport holders now enjoy visa-free or visa-on-arrival access to 59 countries. Popular destinations like Malaysia, Indonesia, and Thailand are now easily accessible. Countries like Malaysia, Maldives, and Thailand now offer visa-free entry to Indian citizens. Additionally, nations such as Sri Lanka, Myanmar, and Macau provide visa-on-arrival options. However, the exact requirements can vary based on factors like trip purpose and stay duration. Always check the visa requirements before travel.
Asian countries continue to dominate the rankings. Singapore leads with access to 193 destinations. Japan and South Korea follow closely with 190 destinations each. The surge in Asia’s passport strength highlights the region’s growing diplomatic influence. According to Dr. Christian H. Kaelin, the Henley Passport Index creator, global access is earned through strategic diplomacy.
Europe also remains competitive. Seven EU nations like Germany, France, and Spain, offer visa-free access to 189 destinations. Another group of seven countries provides access to 188 countries. European passports maintain strong mobility despite competition from emerging nations.
