India’s per capita income has grown significantly over the last decade. It reached Rs 1,14,710 in 2024-25. This is a rise of Rs 41,905 compared to Rs 72,805 in 2014-15.

The Ministry of Finance shared this information in a report to the Lok Sabha. The increase in per capita income is different in each state and union territory. This is due to factors like economic development, sectoral composition, and governance.

The government has worked to improve the living standards of the poor. Programs have been created to reduce poverty and inequality. These initiatives aim to help people generate income and improve their quality of life.

Here are the top 10 states and UTs in India with the highest per capita income in 2024-25:

1. Karnataka

Karnataka has the highest per capita income of Rs 2,04,605.

2. Tamil Nadu

Tamil Nadu ranks second with Rs 1,96,309.

3. Haryana

Haryana’s per capita income stands at Rs 1,94,285.

4. Telangana

Telangana follows with Rs 1,87,912.

5. Maharashtra

Maharashtra’s per capita income is Rs 1,76,678.

6. Himachal Pradesh

Himachal Pradesh’s income is Rs 1,63,465.

7. Uttarakhand

Uttarakhand’s per capita income is Rs 1,58,819.

8. Puducherry

Puducherry ranks eighth with Rs 1,55,533.

9. Andhra Pradesh

Andhra Pradesh’s per capita income is Rs 1,41,609.

10. Punjab

Punjab completes the top 10 list with Rs 1,35,356.

The increase in per capita income across India’s states and union territories shows that some regions have made significant economic progress. While states like Karnataka and Tamil Nadu lead in income levels, others are also catching up with improvements in governance and development. However variations in income growth emphasize the need for targeted policies to ensure balanced growth and reduce regional disparities.
