IRCTC New Rule: Here’s Who Can Book Train Tickets in First 15 Minutes

IRCTC New Rule:

Indian Railways is bringing a big change to online train ticket booking. From October 1, 2025, only passengers with Aadhaar verification will be able to book tickets during the first 15 minutes after reservation opens on IRCTC. This new rule applies to both the IRCTC website and mobile app. Until now this system was followed mainly for Tatkal tickets, but now it will also cover normal reservations.

IRCTC New Rule:

The main aim of this decision is to give genuine passengers a fair chance to book seats. In recent years many agents and software tools have been blocking tickets quickly, leaving normal passengers without confirmed seats. With Aadhaar verification, only real travellers can book tickets immediately, reducing the chance of misuse.

This change will not affect ticket booking at railway station counters. There is also a rule that authorised agents cannot book tickets for the first 10 minutes after bookings open. This means normal travellers with Aadhaar verification get more priority than agents during the starting slot.

To support this system, the Centre for Railway Information Systems (CRIS) and IRCTC are making technical upgrades. Railways will also run campaigns to inform passengers about the new rule. All zonal offices have been instructed to follow this system so that passenger details remain accurate and fake identities are removed from the system.

Railway officials believe this move will bring more transparency to online ticketing. It will stop fraudulent bookings, help real passengers get confirmed seats and strengthen trust in the reservation system. The Aadhaar-based booking process will also make e-ticketing safer and easier in the future. Overall, with this new rule, ordinary people are expected to book train tickets without facing problems from agents or illegal software, making the entire process faster, fairer and more secure.
