Along with films, Kota has also touched politics. He entered the assembly by winning as an MLA from Vijayawada between 1999 and 2004. Kota, who has received 9 Nandi Awards, has also received the Padma Shri award from the Government of India for his services to the Telugu film industry.

Apart from acting, he is a politician and it seems that he has invested some of his earnings from films in real estate. Kota, who is a busy artist, has taken care of his finances. Kota and Rukmini have two daughters and a son, Anjaneya Prasad. However, Kota’s son died in a road accident in June 2010. The daughters got married and settled down. Kota’s son Prasad has two sons. They are currently studying. After the death of his son, Kota himself took care of his grandchildren. They educated them well. Currently, those two grandchildren are his heirs, and also conducted Kota’s funeral.
