A small medical transport jet, a Beechcraft B200 Super King Air, crashed just moments after lifting off from the runway. The aircraft, which was en route from London to the Netherlands, fell to the ground a short distance from the airport. Upon impact, the plane exploded into flames, sending a large plume of smoke into the sky.

The plane struck a college hostel building, killing 275 people, including 241 of the 242 passengers onboard. The crash was attributed to a fuel supply failure.

Authorities continue to investigate the causes behind both tragic incidents, and safety measures are likely to be re-evaluated at airports and airlines worldwide.
