Modi’s Trinidad Visit: Indian PM Dines at Sohari Akula

Modi’s Trinidad Visit: Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited Trinidad and Tobago as part of his five-nation tour. An unprecedented spiritual performance by Prime Minister Kamla Prasad Bisessar impressed everyone. Everyone there was surprised and delighted when PM Kamla read out a Gujarati poem written by Modi himself. This event further strengthened the cultural bond between the two countries, especially the bond of Indian origin.

Trinidad and Tobago Prime Minister Kamla Prasad Bisessar read out a poem titled ‘Aankh Aa Dhanya Che’ (Those eyes are blessed) written by PM Modi . She mentioned the poem from a book written by Modi in Gujarati. This poem contains deep feelings like remembering those who stood by us in difficult times and their memories are part of our journey. The Trinidad Prime Minister’s recitation of it surprised everyone there. And 40 percent of the people of Indian origin are in this country. Our country’s culture and traditions are still evident in their food, music, and language.


PM Kamla quoted this poem from a book written by Modi. It was not just a poetry reading, but also a symbol of a special bond and cultural understanding between the two heads of state. Not only this, food was served on a sohari leaf. It holds great cultural significance for the people of Trinidad and Tobago, especially those of Indian origin. Food is often served on this leaf during festivals and other special occasions.

On the other hand, it is noteworthy that about 40 percent of the population of Trinidad and Tobago is of Indian origin. About 5.56 lakh people of Indian origin live here. PM Kamla Persad Bisessar is herself a leader of Indian origin. Her ancestors are from Buxar district of Bihar . Recalling this, Prime Minister Modi described her as a “daughter of Bihar”. On this occasion, Modi recalled the historical and cultural ties between India and Trinidad and Tobago.

Such cultural events further strengthen diplomatic and people-to-people ties between the two countries. It is a rare event for a Prime Minister of one country to read a poem written by another Prime Minister in his own language. Analysts believe that this will not only strengthen diplomatic ties but also the emotional bond between the people. It is hoped that this visit will open new avenues for future cooperation between the two countries.
