Mumbai Rain Havoc: Due to the weather department’s warning of extremely heavy rainfall, all government and semi-government offices in Mumbai will be closed on Tuesday, according to the city civic body. Mumbai Rain Havoc Updates:
Amid heavy rains in the city and suburbs and the ‘red alert’ issued by the IMD, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) announced on Tuesday morning that all government and semi-government offices would remain closed as a precaution. The BMC clarified that the order applies to all BMC offices and state-run establishments, excluding essential services. “Considering the red alert for very heavy rainfall in Mumbai city and suburbs, all government, semi-government, and BMC offices (excluding essential services) will remain closed today,” the BMC said in its statement.
In the 24 hours ending at 8 am on Tuesday, the island city recorded 186.43 mm of rain, the eastern suburbs received 208.78 mm, and the western suburbs recorded 238.19 mm, an official confirmed. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecast “very heavy to extremely heavy” rainfall across Mumbai and its suburbs on Tuesday, along with gusty winds of 45 to 55 kmph. Authorities warned that rainfall during early morning and late evening hours could trigger traffic jams, especially as high tide reached 3.75 meters at 9.16 am and 3.14 meters at 8.53 pm.

Mumbai Local and Railway Train Update:
People in low-lying areas of Dadar, Matunga, Parel, and Sion reported waterlogging on railroad tracks. Railway authorities confirmed that the water remained below track level and asserted that train operations continued without disruption, though services faced delays. Local trains on the Central Railway’s main line ran 10 minutes late, while those on the harbor line ran 5 minutes late around 8 am, a CR representative said. A Western Railway spokesperson added that their suburban services also ran slightly late due to poor visibility.
Waterlogging Areas in Mumbai:
Officials recorded waterlogging at Hindmata, Andheri Subway, and several stretches of the Eastern Express Highway, the Mumbai-Gujarat route, and the Eastern Freeway. An early morning technical glitch in the signalling system between Ambivali and Shahad stations on the Mumbai suburban network worsened the situation.
