Naga Vamsi on Sankranti Releases:
Popular producer Naga Vamsi is all set for his upcoming film Kingdom release. As part of the promotions, Vamsi recently made some interesting comments about the Telugu film industry and the release strategies especially concerning Sankranti. He stated a key point that star hero films and big-budget movies should not be released during Sankranti as it will be more beneficial for smaller, medium-budget films.
Sankranti has been a popular time for releasing big films in Telugu cinema, with top heroes and blockbuster movies often vying for the festival slot. However, Vamsi believes this tradition should come to an end. He pointed out that movies like Devara, Kalki 2898AD and Pushpa have all been successful despite not releasing during peak seasons. In fact, Naga Vamsi argued that giving Sankranti slots to medium or smaller budget films would be more beneficial for the industry. According to him, these films can perform well for the first few days, earning back their budget and potentially even becoming successful.
Naga Vamsi said, “There’s no problem with big films releasing at any time of the year. Films like Devara, Kalki, and Pushpa have been successful even in off-seasons. Therefore, there’s no need to wait for Sankranti for star-studded and big-budget films.”
He believes that Sankranti, traditionally a time for grand film releases could instead serve as an opportunity for medium and small-budget films to thrive. “Instead of having only big films during Sankranti, it would be more beneficial to offer these dates to medium or small-budget films. This way, even if the movie is good, it can run for at least three to four days, recovering its budget quickly,” he added.
