October Bank Holidays:
Bank holidays are important to know, especially during festival seasons. In October 2025, there are several holidays in India, including for major festivals like Dussehra and Diwali. Knowing the exact dates helps people plan their banking activities without any hassle.
In October, banks will have up to 21 holidays across different states. However, not all holidays are the same in every region. The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) classifies holidays under three categories: Negotiable Instruments Act, Real Time Gross Settlement holidays, and Banks’ Account Closing holidays. In October, there are about 15 official bank holidays, and the remaining are weekends.
October 1: End of Navaratri, Vijayadashami, and Durga Puja in some regions.
October 2: Mahatma Gandhi Jayanti, observed nationwide as a holiday. Some areas also celebrate Vijayadashami and Durga Puja.
October 7: Maharshi Valmiki Jayanti.
October 10: Karva Chauth.
October 18: Kite festival (Kati Bihu) in Assam.
Diwali holidays:
October 20: Diwali, Naraka Chaturdashi, Kali Puja.
October 21: Diwali Amavasya, Govardhan Puja.
October 22: Bali Padya, Vikram Samvat New Year.
October 23: Bhai Dooj. During these days, banks will remain closed in most parts of the country.
Other holidays:
October 27-28: Chhath Puja in Bihar and Jharkhand.
October 31: Some states may observe Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Jayanti.
Weekends:
Apart from festivals, banks also remain closed on Sundays and on the second and fourth Saturdays, which in October 2025 are October 5, 12, 19, 26 (Sundays), and October 11, 25 (Saturdays).
For districts in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, there are mainly two bank holidays: October 2 for Dussehra and October 20 for Diwali. Planning ahead helps avoid last-minute banking issues during the festive season.
