Passenger Mistakenly Tries to Open Cockpit Door on Bengaluru–Varanasi Flight

Bengaluru–Varanasi Flight:

A surprising incident occurred on an Air India Express flight from Bengaluru to Varanasi on Monday when a passenger tried to open the cockpit door mid-air. The man, identified as Mr. Mani, reportedly mistook the cockpit entrance for a lavatory.

Bengaluru–Varanasi Flight:

According to airline officials, the passenger attempted to enter the restricted area and even pressed the security code for the cockpit door. This immediately alerted the crew, and the situation was quickly brought under control. When questioned, the passenger explained that it was his first time traveling by air and he was unaware of the cockpit’s security system.

The pilot, following strict safety protocols, denied entry and informed Air Traffic Control (ATC) of the incident, fearing a possible security threat. The flight landed safely in Varanasi, where the passenger, along with eight members of his travel group, was handed over to Uttar Pradesh Police for further questioning.

Air India Express released a statement confirming that safety was never compromised during the incident. The airline stressed that robust security systems are in place and that the matter has been reported to the relevant authorities for investigation. The passenger was also handed over to the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) as per protocol.

This case comes a day after another unusual event involving Air India, where a London–Delhi flight was delayed for two hours. The delay occurred because a passenger’s boarding pass was scanned, but the person never actually boarded the aircraft, forcing the crew to return to the gate.

Aviation experts note that such incidents highlight the importance of awareness among first-time fliers and the strict enforcement of security rules. While no harm was caused in this case, airlines are taking the matter seriously to ensure passenger safety.

Air India Express reassured travelers that all flights continue to follow international safety standards, and the incident is being treated as a matter of investigation rather than a direct threat.
