A recent tweet has set social media buzzing after a Delhi resident questioned Prime Minister Narendra Modi over unpaid traffic fines. The user posted on X (formerly Twitter), tagging PM Modi’s official handle along with @PMOIndia, @HMOIndia, and @dtptraffic. The tweet claimed that the vehicle number DL2CAX2964, linked to the Prime Minister’s convoy, had three pending challans.
The tweet read, “Dear @narendramodi ji, your vehicle no DL2CAX2964 has 3 challans pending. Kindly pay the challan on time and avoid any such violation next time.” A screenshot from a traffic violation portal was attached, showing the fines against a Toyota Land Cruiser LC300, allegedly used in the PM’s fleet.
Soon after the tweet surfaced, it gained massive traction online. Many citizens praised the user for speaking up. They stressed that rules should apply to everyone, including national leaders. Others pointed out that the issue reflects the larger problem of VIP culture in India.
However, not everyone agreed. Several users argued that the post was misleading and lacked proper context. They reminded others to verify facts before jumping to conclusions.
What’s the Truth? PM Modi Not Personally Liable
Despite the viral post, PM Modi is not personally responsible for the challans. The vehicles in his convoy are government-owned and managed by NSG (National Security Guard) or SPG (Special Protection Group).
These agencies operate and maintain the vehicles used for high-security movements. Therefore, any legal responsibility lies with the government departments, not with the Prime Minister himself. Modi neither owns nor drives these vehicles.
Interestingly, while the challan controversy unfolded back home, PM Modi was on an official state visit to Africa. On July 2, 2025, Ghana awarded him the Order of the Star of Ghana, the country’s highest civilian honour.

President Nana Akufo-Addo presented the award during a ceremony in Accra. The honour recognises Modi’s efforts in strengthening India-Ghana relations and promoting global cooperation. He is the first Indian Prime Minister in over 30 years to visit Ghana. Modi accepted the award on behalf of 140 crore Indians, underlining India’s growing global influence
