Prayagraj Flood Alert: The water level of Ganga and Yamuna is rising rapidly in Sangam city. On Saturday afternoon, the water level of both the rivers crossed the warning point and moved towards the danger mark.
On Saturday, the water level of Ganga rose by 29 cm and that of Yamuna by 24 cm. Due to floods in both the rivers, water has entered the settlements. Water has entered more than 200 houses in the city. The situation in Baghada and Ganganagar is the worst.
50 flood victims here have taken shelter in relief camps. Around 1000 people have migrated from their homes and are staying in the houses of their relatives and acquaintances. The water level of Yamuna is likely to rise further due to the water of Ken, Betwa and Chambal rivers.
The water level of Ganga will also increase due to the release of water from barrages and dams. If the water level rises like this, then Ganga and Yamuna may cross the danger mark by Sunday. More than a dozen coastal localities and 57 villages of the city are likely to be affected by this.
There was a huge rise in the water level in both the rivers on Friday night. The water level of Ganga increased by 74 cm during Friday night and reached 82.61 meters on Saturday morning. The water level of Yamuna increased by 118 cm and reached 82.63 meters at 8 am on Saturday. At 12 noon, the water level of Ganga was 82.73 meters and that of Yamuna was 82.70 meters and at 4 pm the water level of Ganga reached 82.84 and that of Yamuna 82.79 meters.
At 8 pm, the water level of Ganga was 82.90 meters and that of Yamuna was 82.87 meters. The warning point of both the rivers is 82.73 meters, which was crossed in the afternoon. The danger mark is 83.74 meters, towards which both the rivers are rising.
Due to flood situation in both the rivers, water has entered in Nevada, Draupadi Ghat, Ganganagar of Rajapur, Sundaram Colony, Beli Kachhar, Beli Village, Baghada, Dharhariya, Sadiabad and Chilla. There has been a lot of damage due to water entering people’s houses here.
A large number of people have camped on the first and second floors, while some have reached shelters. The district administration has arranged boats and motor boats in these settlements. NDRF, SDRF and PAC flood relief teams have been deployed for rescue. The administration has asked the people of coastal areas surrounded by flood water to move to safer places.
