Chhath Puja Rush: Traffic Restrictions in Delhi Announced


Chhath Puja Rush: Delhi Traffic Police ordered limits and detours throughout the city on Sunday, anticipating that thousands of devotees would come to several ghats for Chhath Puja over the course of the next two days. According to the notice from Monday afternoon to Tuesday morning, traffic flow on the roadways that border the main Chhath Puja ponds is expected to be disrupted. It has been advised that commuters stay away from areas close to ghats and take public transportation if feasible.

Expected Devotees During Chhath Puja:


Significant crowds are anticipated in east and northeast Delhi at Purvanchal Nav Nirman Sangtan Ghat, Gandhi Nagar Chhath Poojan Samiti Naav Ghat close to the Old Iron Bridge, and Satyamev Jayate Ghat close to Geeta Colony, all of which are anticipated to attract over 45,000 devotees.

There will probably be a lot of foot traffic at DND Yamuna Khadar and Chhath Ghat, which are close to Shastri Park. According to the notice, there will likely be slow traffic near Geeta Colony, IP Extension, and Shastri Park.

Road Closure & Diversions in Delhi:

Commercial vehicles will not be permitted on GT Road in Bhajanpura between Shastri Park and Yudhishthir Setu on Mondays from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. and Tuesdays from 5 a.m. to 7 a.m. Shantivan Loop and Laxmi Nagar to Kailash Nagar Road in Gandhi Nagar will be blocked Monday from 5 to 6 p.m. and Tuesday from 5 to 7 a.m.; traffic will be rerouted via Disused Canal Road.

Vehicles from Sonia Vihar Border will be rerouted from the MCD Toll towards Sabhapur village, and traffic heading towards Sonia Vihar from Nanaksar will be redirected to Old Wazirabad Road in Khajuri Khas. Large crowds are expected on many ghats in central and northern Delhi, including Shyam Ghat in Jagatpur, which is expected to draw more than a lakh pilgrims.

According to the caution, significant crowds are also anticipated at Vaasudev Ghat near ISBT and Shani Mandir Ghat in Jagatpur. As per the media statement given by the Delhi Traffic Police, traffic on Majnu ka Tila, Burari, Wazirabad Road, and in the vicinity of the Yamuna may continue to be heavy.

Restrictions on Public Transport:

Police advised to use the Delhi metro without any tensions, and commuters should be prepared for expected delays during this festive time. According to the official announcement, there won’t be any kind of restrictions on the routes that lead to ISBT, Nizamuddin Railway Station, Old Delhi Railway Station, and also towards New Delhi Railway Station. There is a strict warning from police to park cars and other vehicles in the dedicated parking lots and advised not to avoid using roadside parking.
