Red Alert for Hyderabad:
Telangana is currently experiencing heavy rainfall, thanks to a surface low-pressure system formed in the Bay of Bengal. The Hyderabad Meteorological Department has issued warnings for thunderstorms and heavy rains across various regions, with the potential for lightning. In some areas, moderate rainfall is expected as well.
Since the early hours of August 12, heavy rain has been pouring down on Greater Hyderabad, including areas such as Malakpet, Dilsukhnagar, Chaitanyapuri, Khairatabad, and Secunderabad. The ongoing rainfall has caused severe disruptions, with low-lying areas submerged in water. Traffic has been heavily impacted, with floodwaters blocking several roads.
The Hyderabad Meteorological Department also issued alerts for the districts of Warangal, Karimnagar, Mahbubnagar, and several others, where moderate rain is predicted. Winds of up to 40 kilometers per hour, along with occasional thunder and lightning, are expected. In some regions, rainfall will range from light to moderate, especially in areas like Nalgonda, Suryapet, and Rangareddy.
Heavy Rain Alert:
In addition to the city-wide rainfall, the heavy rains have caused a significant inflow into the Musi Reservoir in Nalgonda district. This has resulted in the opening of four gates to release the excess water, as the reservoir’s water levels continue to rise. Currently, the water level stands at 643.60 feet, nearing its full capacity of 645 feet.
Residents are urged to stay alert, especially in flood-prone areas, and avoid venturing out unless necessary. Authorities have also warned of possible disruptions in daily life due to continued rain and flooding.
