“Life takes us in different directions sometimes,” Saina wrote. “After much thought and consideration, Kashyap Parupalli and I have decided to part ways. We are choosing peace, growth, and healing  for ourselves and each other.”

She added, “I’m grateful for the memories and wish nothing but the best moving forward. Thank you for understanding and respecting our privacy during this time.”

From Partners on Court to Life

Saina and Kashyap trained together at the Pullela Gopichand Academy in Hyderabad. Over the years, their bond grew both professionally and personally. They married in December 2018 in an intimate ceremony attended by close family and friends.

While Saina rose to global fame as the first Indian to win an Olympic medal in badminton, Kashyap carved his own legacy. He clinched the 2014 Commonwealth Games gold and was ranked among the world’s top 10 players.

A Time of Transition

Kashyap retired from competitive badminton in early 2024 and has since taken up coaching. Meanwhile, Saina has been away from action since her early exit at the Singapore Open in June 2023.

She has openly shared her struggles with arthritis and hinted at retirement in a podcast with shooter Gagan Narang. “I am also thinking about it,” she said, suggesting she may retire by the end of 2025.

Legacy Beyond the Court

Saina Nehwal’s contribution to Indian badminton is unmatched. She inspired a new generation by becoming the first Indian to win the BWF World Junior Championships and reaching the final of the World Championships. Her journey, alongside Kashyap’s, played a pivotal role in putting Indian badminton on the global map.

As they now walk separate paths, fans across the nation continue to support both athletes in their personal journeys toward peace and healing.
