School Holiday on 29 August 2025: Schools Closed in These States

School Holiday on 29 August:

The last week of August 2025 has been marked by both celebrations and heavy rainfall in many parts of the country. Due to safety concerns, several state governments have announced school holidays for August 29, 2025 (Friday). Let’s take a look at where schools will remain closed.

School Holiday on 29 August:

Jammu and Kashmir

In Jammu division, all government and private schools will stay closed until August 30, 2025 because of continuous heavy rainfall and unsafe weather conditions. The official notice from the Directorate of School Education Jammu (DSEJ) confirmed that schools will reopen on September 1, 2025.

Punjab

Punjab has been experiencing severe rain, leading to waterlogging and a flood-like situation in many districts. Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann announced that all schools, colleges, and educational institutions will remain shut till August 30, 2025. Cities such as Pathankot, Amritsar, Hoshiarpur, Ludhiana, and Patiala are among the most affected regions.

Himachal Pradesh

Himachal Pradesh has also been hit by continuous downpours. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued multiple alerts. A yellow warning was announced for Shimla and Mandi districts on August 29, while an orange alert has been issued for August 30-31 in Mandi, Solan, and Shimla. Due to these warnings, schools across affected areas will remain closed.

Kerala

In Kerala, schools are closed not because of rain but for Onam celebrations. Students are enjoying a 10-day holiday from August 27 to September 7, 2025, and classes will resume on September 8, 2025.

Weather Outlook

The IMD has warned that above-normal rainfall is likely in many northern and central states till mid-September. This year’s monsoon has been stronger than usual, with 23% more rainfall recorded in northwest India. Experts say climate change and shifting monsoon patterns are the main reasons for this extreme weather.

Students across Jammu, Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, and Kerala will have a holiday on August 29, 2025. While some are celebrating Onam, others are staying safe indoors due to heavy rain. Parents and students are advised to keep checking official updates for further announcements.
