School Holiday on August 28:
Several states in India will have school holidays on Thursday, August 28, 2025. The reasons are different. Some states face heavy rain and flood warnings. Other states are celebrating major festivals like Onam and Ganesh Chaturthi Celebrations.
The Punjab government has ordered all schools to remain closed until August 31, 2025. This includes private and government schools. The decision came after continuous heavy rainfall in the state. Water levels in major rivers such as Satluj, Beas, and Ravi have risen. Water is also releasing from Ranjit Sagar and Bhakra dams. Floods affect many districts like Pathankot, Gurdaspur, Hoshiarpur, Ludhiana, and Jalandhar. Floodwater damages roads. Heavy rain leaves many areas waterlogged.
In Uttarakhand and Jammu, landslides and floods have blocked several roads. The state authorities have closed schools on August 28 for student safety. Officials will review the situation before reopening.
Festival-Related Holidays
In the southern states, schools are closed for festivals. Ganesh Chaturthi was celebrated on August 27 in Maharashtra, Karnataka, Telangana, Goa, and Kerala. Most schools in these states will stay closed on August 28 as well. After that, schools are likely to reopen unless new notices are issued.
Kerala is also celebrating Onam from August 26 to 28. Schools in Kerala remain closed during this period. Families participate in cultural programs like Pookalam, Vallam Kali, and Pulikali.
Parents’ Advisory
Parents should check the latest updates from local authorities or school notices. Conditions can change quickly in rain-affected states. Holidays may extend if the weather does not improve.
Students in festive states can enjoy the celebrations with their families. Students in flood-hit states should stay safe at home.
India will see two different reasons for school closures on August 28—one for safety, and the other for celebration.
