On November 1, 2025 (Saturday), schools across many Indian states will remain closed for different reasons some due to state formation celebrations, and others because of Cyclone Montha and heavy rainfall.
In Chhattisgarh and Karnataka, the holiday marks State Formation Day. Chhattisgarh will celebrate its foundation day with cultural programs, while Karnataka will observe Kannada Rajyotsava, where schools, colleges, and government offices will remain closed. The day will be celebrated with flag hoisting, patriotic events, and cultural performances across the state.
In contrast, Odisha, Telangana, Tamil Nadu, and Andhra Pradesh are facing severe weather due to Cyclone Montha. As a safety measure, district administrations have ordered schools and colleges to remain closed in affected areas. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued red and orange alerts for several districts warning of strong winds and continuous rainfall.
In Odisha, schools in districts like Ganjam, Rayagada, and Malkangiri will stay shut until weather conditions improve. Similarly, in Telangana, schools in Khammam, Bhadradri, and Kothagudem are likely to remain closed as heavy rains continue.
Tamil Nadu has also placed many districts, including Chennai and Tiruvallur, under an orange alert. Authorities in Tiruvallur have already declared a school holiday for November 1, while other districts will decide based on rainfall intensity.
In Andhra Pradesh, schools have been closed since October 27 due to persistent heavy rains. The Kakinada administration has extended the holiday till November 1, 2025. Officials will review the weather before reopening schools next week.
Parents and students are advised to check school WhatsApp groups, district portals, and education department websites for the latest updates regarding reopening.
This combination of regional festivities and bad weather has made November 1 a day of both celebration and caution across many parts of India.
