School Holiday Today:
As India prepares for the festive season, many schools across the country are adjusting their academic schedules. On Monday, October 13, 2025, several states will observe school holidays due to two main reasons regional festivals and heavy rainfall. This comes as families get ready for Diwali and Chhath Puja, which are celebrated widely across different parts of the country.
In Karnataka, schools will remain closed from October 8 to October 18. Chief Minister Siddaramaiah announced this 10-day break because teachers are involved in the ongoing Caste-Based Socio-Educational Survey. The survey, which started on September 22, is yet to be completed in several districts, leading to the extended closure.
In Rajasthan, the Education Department has declared Diwali holidays from October 13 to October 24. Including Sunday (October 12), students will enjoy a total of 12 days of mid-term vacation. This break allows families to prepare for Diwali celebrations and spend quality time together.
Bihar will also see schools closed from October 18 to October 28 due to Diwali and Chhath Puja. After the festival of lights, preparations for Chhath begin immediately, and most schools will stay shut throughout the period.
In Uttar Pradesh, schools will remain closed between October 19 and October 23 for Diwali holidays, with October 19 (Sunday) included, giving students a five-day break.
Meanwhile, Darjeeling and Kalimpong districts of West Bengal have announced temporary closures due to heavy rainfall and landslides. The Gorkhaland Territorial Administration (GTA) has taken this step to ensure student safety. Schools are expected to reopen on October 13, depending on weather conditions.
Authorities in Jammu division are monitoring rainfall and may issue closure notifications if the weather worsens.
States like Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Gujarat, Odisha, and Haryana will function as usual, with no official holiday on October 13.
As the festival season begins, these breaks give students a much-needed pause from academics, allowing them to celebrate cultural traditions and enjoy time with their families.
