Schools Closed Today:
In response to the ongoing heavy rainfall, schools and colleges in several districts of Kerala will remain closed on August 6. The districts affected include Thrissur, Kannur, and Kasaragod. The authorities made the decision as a precautionary measure to ensure the safety of students and staff during the adverse weather conditions.
The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red alert for the districts of Kannur and Kasaragod, indicating severe weather with heavy rainfall and thunderstorms expected throughout the day. The IMD has also warned of strong winds that could reach speeds of up to 50 km/h. Consequently, fishermen are advised to avoid venturing into the sea.
The holiday affects all educational institutions, including CBSE and ICSE schools, Kendriya Vidyalayas, professional colleges, and tuition centres in these districts. However, pre-scheduled exams or interviews will continue as planned without any changes. The authorities also prohibited other activities like mining and tourist visits to various sites in Kannur for the day.
The authorities in Thrissur, where the weather had been clearer in recent days, initially planned to keep schools open despite an orange alert. However, with the latest weather updates and public safety concerns, they decided to close the schools for the day.
In the wake of these weather warnings, the district administrations are taking proactive measures to minimize disruption while ensuring the safety of residents. They continue to monitor the situation closely and will issue further updates as needed.
