Smart Ways to Cut Your Electricity Bill
In recent times, many people have been struggling with high electricity bills. However, making small changes in the daily usage of electronic appliances can lead to significant savings. Here are some simple tips to help you save up to 150 units a month:
Smart Ways to Cut Your Electricity Bill
1. Replace Old Fans
Traditional ceiling fans use around 80 watts, consuming approximately 48 units per month when used for about 20 hours a day. However, modern BLDC fans use only 19 watts for the same time. By replacing three old fans with BLDC models, you can save nearly 87 units per month. Although the initial cost is higher, the savings will recover the investment in 6 to 8 months.
2. Switch to LED Tube Lights
Many homes still use old 40-watt tube lights with magnetic chokes. Replacing them with 18-watt LED tube lights can save up to 22 watts per light. If you have four tube lights running 10 hours a day, this simple switch can save about 26 units monthly.
3. Maintain Water Pumps
Water motors can consume a lot of electricity if not maintained properly. Regular cleaning and greasing of bearings can improve efficiency and save up to 10 units per month. Ensuring that there are no plumbing leaks also reduces motor running time and power consumption.
4. Air Conditioner Maintenance
Dirty AC coils can increase power consumption by up to 15%. Cleaning them every 15 days can improve efficiency. Also, setting the thermostat to 24°C can reduce electricity usage. Lower temperatures can increase consumption by 3-5% per degree.
5. Use Voltage Stabilizers Wisely
Many modern appliances like refrigerators and televisions come with built-in voltage control, making external stabilizers unnecessary. Continuing to use stabilizers can add 30-45 units to your bill every month.
By implementing these changes, a family can save over 150 units a month, which can amount to a saving of Rs. 1,500 or more annually. Experts suggest that households review their electronic usage to avoid high electricity bills with these small adjustments.
