Smriti Irani, the iconic television actress, is making headlines once again. Known for her portrayal of Tulsi Virani in the hit show Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi, Irani is set to reprise her role in the reboot, and this time, she is commanding a jaw-dropping Rs 14 lakh per episode.
When Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi first aired in 2000, it became a massive cultural phenomenon, turning Irani’s character, Tulsi Virani, into a household name across India. Back then, Irani was earning just Rs 1,800 per episode. However, her return to the show’s reboot is a testament to her enduring star power. While the production house has yet to officially confirm her new salary, industry insiders suggest that her hefty paycheck reflects both the nostalgic value of the character and her status as a television legend.
Before her rise to fame, Irani’s early career was far from glamorous. She shared in an interview that she once worked at McDonald’s, earning a mere Rs 1,800 a month. Her breakthrough came when astrologer Janardhan predicted that she would become a popular face in the country. This led Ekta Kapoor to take a chance on her, offering Irani a significant role in Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi. This was the pivotal moment that skyrocketed her to stardom.
The reboot of the show is eagerly anticipated, with Irani once again in the lead role. A teaser released by the makers has stirred excitement, with Irani saying in the promo, “Zaroor aaoongi. Kyunki itne saalon ka rishtha jo hai. Waqt aa gaya hai aapse phir milne ka.” The reboot will premiere on Star Plus on July 29, 2025.
While Irani is now a senior BJP politician and Union Minister, she has emphasized that her political career is her primary focus. She considers her return to acting as a side project. Nonetheless, for her fans, this is more than just a comeback it’s a symbol of perseverance, hard work, and reinvention. Irani’s rise from humble beginnings to commanding one of the highest salaries in Indian television is a story of success that continues to inspire many.
