Extra-Marital Affairs in India:
In a surprising new report from Ashley Madison, a dating platform known for catering to individuals seeking extra marital relationships, Kanchipuram, a small town in Tamil Nadu has emerged as the leading location for extra marital affairs in India. This marks a significant shift as Kanchipuram jumped from 17th place in 2024 to the top spot in 2025. This shift suggests that the app is becoming increasingly popular in smaller cities even as major metropolitan areas like Delhi and Mumbai show signs of stagnation.
The report, released in June 2025, revealed that Kanchipuram’s remarkable rise was part of a broader trend. The app’s growing reach in tier-2 and tier-3 cities is evident as regions like Delhi and Mumbai no longer dominate the rankings. Central Delhi ranked second, followed by several districts within the Delhi-NCR region which accounted for nine locations in the top 20. Interestingly cities like Ghaziabad and Jaipur outperformed larger urban centers indicating a shift in patterns of online infidelity.
Paul Keable, Chief Strategy Officer at Ashley Madison, says this surge in activity shows a broader shift in how people view relationships in India.He stated, “India is leading the way in redefining modern relationships, with over half of adults admitting to infidelity. We are seeing a growing acceptance of non-monogamy in India.”
India now ranks sixth globally for sign-ups on the platform. It may climb higher by the end of the year.
The new data matches insights from earlier reports. A report from April 2025 showed that India and Brazil had the highest rates of admitted infidelity worldwide. In this survey, 53% of Indian respondents said they had an affair. This shows a major change in how society views relationships and fidelity.
Kanchipuram has become the leading city for extra-marital affairs. Cities like Jaipur, Raigarh, Kamrup, and Chandigarh also appear in the top 20. The trend has spread beyond urban centers. It is now reaching different regions across India.
