Tragic Train Accident in Mirzapur: How Many Killed on Kartik Purnima

Tragic Train Accident in Mirzapur: Aterrible incident rocked Mirzapur district early on Wednesday morning, in which six pilgrims met their end after being hit by the Kalka Mail train, close to the Chunar railway station. The dead were said to have recently alighted from the Gomoh-Prayagraj Express on their way to take a holy dip in the Ganges River on the auspicious date of Kartik Purnima. What a calm morning that had hardly lasted for even seconds before something shocking hit the entire area into trauma.

How the Accident Happened

There was a minor accident at 9:15 AM, where passengers got off with others from the Gomoh-Prayagraj Express at Chunar station. In their almost frantic endeavor to bypass the long transverse passage of the crossings, they tried to cross it from the wrong side, knowing not that the Kalka Mail was already speeding-up on platform number three. The carnage struck instantly, transforming itself into a grave tragedy. An eyewitness even went on to put the scene at panic, as the crowd roamed around while railway authorities rushed to the scene.

Immediate Response and Identification

Government Railway Police (GRP) teams immediately descended at the incident scene, Railway Protection Force (RPF). All of them gathered corpses from the tracks for identification process. The deceased were identified as Savita (28), Sadhna (16), Shiv Kumari (12), Appu Devi (20), Sushila Devi (60), and Kalavati Devi (50), to the east-west boundaries of adjacent districts within Uttar Pradesh. ASP Operation Manish Kumar Mishra, along with other senior officials, met the site for event watching and initiation of a thorough inquiry.

A Gloomy Reminder of Rail Safety

The Mirzapur tragedy has enforced the need of railway safety regulation; avoid any unauthorized crossings among the rail networks. The day was meant to be a pray day, turning out, instead, the incident into a mournful happening. Such catastrophes could be halted if the authorities would popularize the foot overbridges and assigned crossings to the public travelers rather than cross them at-grade. The district was now mourning six innocent souls who had died while taking this holy journey.
