Why is Your ITR Verified But Not Processed? Here’s What To Do

ITR Verified But Not Processed:
If you’ve filed your Income Tax Return (ITR) and completed the verification process but your return hasn’t been processed yet, you might be wondering what to do next. This situation can cause anxiety, especially when you’re waiting for your refund. Here’s a guide on what you should do if your ITR is verified but not processed.

ITR Verified But Not Processed:
Once you file your ITR, the next step is to verify it. If you’ve e-verified it through Aadhaar OTP or net banking, the Income Tax Department will process your return. However, if you miss this step, your ITR becomes invalid, which can delay your refund. Sometimes, despite completing the verification, the ITR still isn’t processed, which can take longer than expected. If you’re one of those taxpayers waiting for your return to be processed, here’s what you need to know.

Before filing your ITR, ensure that all details regarding your income, deductions, and taxes paid are accurate. After filing, e-verify the return. If you prefer, you can send a signed ITR-V form to the Income Tax Department by post. This process may take from a few hours to six months, depending on the complexity of your income details. Typically, ITR-1 is processed quickly, while ITR-2, 3, 5, 6, and 7 may take longer due to additional details.

If your ITR is not processed, check if the income declaration aligns with your tax records. The Income Tax Department may issue notices if discrepancies are found. For instance, if you earned interest income from fixed deposits but didn’t declare it in your ITR, you might receive a notice. Always check your emails and SMS for updates and respond promptly. Additionally, verify your ITR status on the Income Tax portal to track any notices or updates regarding your return.

It’s important to act quickly if there are any discrepancies. Failing to address notices or respond on time may result in delays or complications with your refund.
