Yemeni Family Rejects Pardon for Nimisha Priya: Firm on Retribution

Family’s Unyielding Stand on Retribution

The family of Talal Abdo Mahdi, the Yemeni national who died in Kerala, has rejected all calls for pardoning the Kerala nurse, Nimisha Priya. Despite efforts by various intermediaries, including prominent Sunni leader Kanthapuram A.P. Aboobacker Musliar, the family remains resolute in their demand for retribution as per Islamic law. Social media posts attributed to Talal’s brother, Abdul Fatah Mahdi, further reinforce this stance, signaling their firm refusal to accept blood money or any form of pardon.

“Justice Will Prevail” – Abdul Fatah Mahdi’s Statement

Abdul Fatah Mahdi posted on social media, stressing that “justice would prevail” and emphasizing that retribution would proceed regardless of delays. In another post, Mahdi clearly stated, “The pens have been lifted, and the papers have been dried,” an Arabic idiom signifying the finality of their decision. This phrase signifies their unshakeable resolve to see the matter through without compromise.

Opposition and Social Media Backlash for Nimisha Priya

While talks were held to convince the family, the situation has been complicated by strong ideological opposition. Certain groups, fueled by personal and political agendas, have criticized the family’s refusal to pardon Nimisha Priya. These individuals have taken to social media to accuse the family of dishonoring Talal’s memory by not accepting blood money. Their negative comments have intensified tensions and made the situation more difficult to navigate.

Retribution vs. Blood Money

The family insists on implementing the principle of “Quisas” under Islamic law, which calls for retribution in kind. This decision stands in contrast to the offer of blood money, known as ‘diya’, which would have led to a pardon for Nimisha Priya. However, the Yemeni family remains firm that no amount of external pressure will change their stance on this matter.
