Many of the foods mentioned in the text are still occupying the bylanes of metaphorical nutrition but offer much to be desired in terms of health benefits. 1. Ghee

Widely considered an emblem of purity and strength, ghee finds mention many times in the texts. This animal fat rich natural lubricant is said to aid digestion, strengthen immunity, and supply energy. In modern times, ghee has been vindicated as possessing fat-soluble vitamins, an extra plus.


2. Barley (Yavah)

Barley grains were among the popularly consumed grains during that age. These grains contain balances of soluble and insoluble fiber that stabilize blood sugar levels, maintain healthy hearts, and assist with fat digestion. Some Indian households still swear by barley water for its cooling and detoxifying properties.

3. Milk & Curd

Milk and curd kept feeding the warriors as well as sages alike. This is fortified with calcium and protein for strong bones, and curd is filled with probiotics for gut health. Together, they are a warrior’s strength and satiation.

4. Sesame Seeds (Til)

5. Honey (Madhu)
