This man quits 90 lakh package and earns 1.44 crores by growing microgreens

This is an inspiring story about a man who quit his job at an MNC company and started his own business to provide nutritional food to society. Mohit Nijhawan was working in a pharma company in Mumbai. He came across a two-month-old baby who had a rare disease. This baby consumed food that contained pesticides and chemicals. Unfortunately, the baby couldn’t be saved.

He witnessed a similar case in his hometown Chandigarh where his close relatives were suffering from cancer. That was not a communicable disease but still, this was way out of the hand. At this point, Mohit decided to work on this and improve good nutritional food for the people.

From a MNC job to Urban Farmer:

He then quit his job as the regional head of the pharma MNC in December 2020 when he was having a 90 lakh annual package. Mohit then planned to grow microgreens with his friend. But his friend cheated on him and Mohit lost lots of money.

After a strong comeback, Mohit decided to grow microgreens on his rooftop. In the initial stage is was forced to stop his business and take up his job. He said in an interview that he used to pay his bills and daughter’s fees from his PF savings.

This urban farmer initially invested 30,000 and kept a small unit with a monthly rent of 10,000 rupees, with just three racks in the first investment. He took organic and non genetically modified seeds from farmers and in return he used to teach them microgreen farming which helps their income. Initially, he started with 21 types of seeds which include broccoli, cauliflower, mustard, fenugreek, radish, and many others.

His first sale:

He first sold them to a Chandigarh oncologist who started using them and saw good results after eating them. Following that he recommended his patients also to adapt to this. From this point of time, he started getting orders from many people and this resulted in increasing the number of racks in the room too. He sells live microgreens with their root for the maximum nutritional benefits. Today he grows in the same place but with more than 10,000 racks.

After his first order was successful, now he sells around 6000 to 7000 trays per week. Each tray has 65 to 100 gms of microgreens. Mostly health-conscious individuals, cafes, restaurants, gyms order from him. With an average price of 200 rupees per tray, he monthly earns 12 lakh per month.
