Aadhaar card update rules:
Aadhaar card is an important identity document for every Indian citizen. It is used for many services like opening a bank account, applying for a passport, or receiving government benefits. It is important to keep all details in the Aadhaar card correct and updated. The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has set certain rules about how many times you can update specific details. Here is a simple explanation:
Name Change Rules:
You can change your name on Aadhaar only two times in your lifetime. This includes fixing spelling mistakes, changing the order of names, or updating names after marriage. You can do this by paying a small fee of ₹50. For a third change, you must visit the regional UIDAI office and submit a request with valid reasons.
Date of Birth (DOB):
You can update your date of birth once in Aadhaar. To change it again, provide valid documents and apply at an Aadhaar enrolment center. If UIDAI rejects it, contact them through helpline number 1947.
Photo and Biometrics:
There is no limit to how many times you can change your photo, fingerprints, or iris scan. These updates must be done at an Aadhaar center. You cannot update biometric data online.
Address Change:
You can update your address in Aadhaar any number of times. UIDAI provides a self-service online portal at [ssup.uidai.gov.in](https://ssup.uidai.gov.in) where users can easily change their address with supporting proof.
Keeping your Aadhaar card information accurate is very important. Follow UIDAI’s rules and use official centers and websites to make any updates safely.
