The month of November continues to have several bank holidays across India. According to the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) holiday calendar, banks in some cities will remain closed on November 5, 2025 (Wednesday), due to Guru Nanak Jayanti and Kartik Purnima.

Guru Nanak Jayanti marks the birth anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev Ji, the first Guru and founder of Sikhism. It is one of the most important festivals for the Sikh community and is celebrated as Prakash Parv with great devotion across the country. On the same day, many regions in India also celebrate Kartik Purnima, a festival of religious importance observed by Hindus.

Because of these major festivals, the RBI has declared a holiday for banks in several parts of the country. The cities where banks will remain closed include Chandigarh, Mumbai, Jaipur, Lucknow, Kolkata, Bhopal, Ranchi, Dehradun, Jammu, and Hyderabad. Banks in the national capital New Delhi will also be closed for the day.

The RBI issues a yearly holiday calendar that includes national holidays, regional holidays, and special state-based holidays depending on local festivals and events. It’s important to note that not all bank holidays are the same across all states. Therefore, customers are advised to check the local branch’s holiday schedule before planning their bank visits.

Even though physical branches will remain closed, online banking, UPI transactions, ATMs, and mobile banking services will continue to function as usual. So, customers can still carry out digital transactions without interruption.

To avoid inconvenience, it’s always good to complete urgent banking tasks like cash deposits, cheque clearance, or documentation work in advance before a declared holiday.

On November 5, devotees across India will celebrate these spiritual festivals, and the bank holiday will allow people to participate in the festivities peacefully.
