Why Should We Hire You?: The hiring team has already decided on the technical ability of a candidate by the time they reach the final round of interviews. The actual questions currently are softly changing from “Can you do this job?” to “Are you the right person for the job?” They as much examine attitude and temperament as they do skills; they fit the culture. That is why an answer to “Why should we hire you?” has to strike authenticity against competence.
Certain candidates have difficulty with the most unlikely answers. One candidate says, “I will do well and I am rather cool.” Everybody chuckled! Well, the applicant found employment. Though it’s a bit too casual for most, this brings toward yet another significant reality: likability matters, perhaps more than most imagine.
Career counselors say interviewers pretend what it would be like to spend a whole working day sitting next to a candidate. The interviewer seeks the most amiable candidate, one who provides some expertise and vitality and projects positive attitude. Better yet, showing off your personality—respectfully and tactfully—will make you human and relevant rather than just a name among thousands on a résumé.
A great response demonstrates that you could be fun and simple to work with in addition to being qualified for the position. That combination can distinguish you from other equally skilled applicants.
Usually along the lines of a perfect and efficient answer is:
“We have decided that I am technically qualified to satisfy or go beyond the expectations for this position. Throughout our conversation, we appear to have developed a solid professional relationship; therefore, I am sure I will fit right into the team and culture. You have seen what I have done in my last job; now I hope to accomplish even more here.
This method confirms the qualities interviewers seek: competence, confidence, and compatibility.
