Indian Railways has introduced a notable change in its Tatkal booking timeline, which is to be implemented from April 15, 2025. The press release announcing this change, issued by the Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC), is with the focus to manage server overload and improve the experience of passengers, thereby facilitating convenient last-minute bookings without interference. Here are the changes In IRCTC tatkal booking timings from April 15 explained with previous and new references.
Tatkal tickets are a Tatkal quota provided with the objective of allowing passengers to book tickets a day in advance of the travel, generally for spontaneous trips, business outings, or where general tickets would be inconvenient. As the seats get sold quickly, any change in booking time may be very critical in terms of obtaining a booking.
IRCTC has postponed the booking time to prevent system congestion and provide a quicker process to the passengers. AC class bookings such as First AC (1A), Second AC (2A), Third AC (3A), and Chair Car (CC) will now be available at 11:00 AM instead of the earlier 10:00 AM opening.
For Non-AC trains such as Sleeper (SL) and Second Sitting (2S), reservation would be opened at 12:00 PM, an hour in advance of previous plans. Online ticket booking agencies, which help book Tatkal tickets, would now possibly see bookings from 1:00 PM onwards. Luxury trains such as Rajdhani and Duronto Express will still follow dynamic pricing principles, while Tatkal group bookings are also not allowed as earlier, as per previous plans.
Influence on Passengers & Reserving Strategies
As Tatkal seats are filled very quickly, the passengers will have to make themselves ready to book tickets ahead of time, according to the new time slot. IRCTC is trying to cut down server crashes in the busy hours of booking, resulting in a smoother user experience for users all over the nation. Cancellation policies are also not changed, i.e., Tatkal booked tickets cannot be canceled except under certain conditions as decided by IRCTC.
While there was news circulating on the changes in the booking timings of tatkal tickets for IRCTC services. The IRCTC have confirmed that this is a fake news and no such proposal was made. They also clarified that the timings of these bookings will remain same.
