Chicken vs Mutton: Which is Better for Heart Health?

Chicken vs Mutton:
Many people enjoy eating non-vegetarian food, but there is always confusion about which meat is healthier chicken or mutton. Some believe chicken is the best source of protein, while others say mutton provides balanced nutrition. Let’s find out what health experts and research studies say about this debate.

Chicken vs Mutton:

According to nutrition experts, all kinds of meat are divided into two categories red meat and white meat. Red meat includes mutton, beef, and pork, while white meat includes chicken, fish, and seafood. It is generally believed that white meat is healthier, but recent research from the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition shows that both red and white meat can increase cholesterol levels, which may affect heart health.

Chicken is rich in protein and contains less fat compared to mutton. That’s why people who want to reduce cholesterol prefer chicken over mutton. However, mutton has a combination of protein and healthy fats, making it a good source of energy. Still, both meats can increase “bad cholesterol” (LDL) if eaten in excess.

Experts explain that our body produces two types of cholesterol good cholesterol (HDL) and bad cholesterol (LDL). While HDL helps remove harmful fat from the blood, LDL increases the risk of heart diseases. Both chicken and mutton contain saturated fats, which raise LDL levels. Although the amount of these fats is slightly lower in chicken, it can still impact heart health when consumed frequently.

Fish and seafood are considered healthier than both chicken and mutton. They have omega-3 fatty acids, which reduce inflammation and support heart function. That’s why doctors suggest eating fish two to three times a week instead of red meat.

Scientists also warn that not just meat, but animal products like butter, ghee, and poultry skin can increase cholesterol in the blood. Therefore, it’s important to eat meat in moderation, combine it with vegetables, and follow a balanced diet.

In short: Chicken is slightly healthier than mutton, but both should be eaten in limited quantities for better heart health. For a truly heart-friendly diet, include more fish, fruits, and vegetables in your meals.
