Circadian Fasting vs Intermittent Fasting: Fasting, till now, has turned into one of the best wellness trends that people have adopted in the past few years. And they took different methods to improve their metabolism, maintain an ideal weight, and generally stay healthy. Among many options, circadian fasting and intermittent fasting are two practices by which people can benefit, though they sound alike and differ in principles and benefits.


What Is Intermittent Fasting?

Intermittent fasting-is an eating pattern in which individuals alternate fasting states with eating windows. For example, there is the 16:8 method (fast for 16 hours, eat within an 8-hour window) and there is the 5:2 method (normal eating for 5 days and reduced calorie intake on 2 days). These do not worry about what you are eating, but at what points in the course of the day you are eating over the period of fasting.

What Is Circadian Fasting?

Circadian fasting is the synchronization of eating time with the people’s own biological clock. The principle is simple: eat during the day and don’t eat during the night. Meals are usually consumed in a 10-12hr window from morning to early evening. This is on the basis of research that our metabolism is more active during the day and less active at night.


The Two are Different in the Following Ways:

Timing Focus: Intermittent fasting is flexible and based on hours of fasting. Circadian fasting has a sincronisation with natural rhythms of the body.

Sustainability: This is generally the perception of most people that circadian fasting, as compared with steady fasting, is easier to maintain in the long run due to the alignment with the energy cycles of the body.

Health Benefits: Both types of fasting may lead to weight loss and increased sensitivity to insulin. However, circadian fasting might provide specific benefits related to quality of sleep and possibly better digestion.

Which One Should You Prefer?

The personal lifestyle and destination are important factors when choosing between the two. Intermittent fasting is perhaps more flexible for you if you appreciate freedom. However, circadian fasting might be very useful in harnessing power from natural rhythms.
