In today’s digital world, cyber frauds are increasing rapidly. Hackers are becoming smarter and finding new ways to steal money from bank accounts—sometimes without even needing an OTP (One-Time Password). One recent case from Muzaffarpur, Bihar, showed how a man lost over ₹5 lakh without sharing any OTP. This is a serious concern for all online banking users.

What Happened in Bihar?


Mohammad Samasul from Muzaffarpur received a call from a person pretending to be from Bandhan Bank. The caller asked him to share his Aadhaar and PAN details to update KYC (Know Your Customer). Samasul refused and said he would visit the bank. But somehow, the fraudsters managed to withdraw more than ₹5 lakh from his two accounts in multiple transactions—without any OTP.

How Can This Happen Without OTP?

Cybercriminals now use advanced software and hacking tools. Sometimes, bank security may also have loopholes. If hackers get access to your personal details like Aadhaar, PAN, or account number, they might link your account to a fake number and carry out fraud without needing your OTP.

Ways to Stay Safe from Cyber Fraud:

Never share personal information such as Aadhaar, PAN, account number, or passwords over phone or email.

Verify unknown callers. If someone claims to be from your bank, call the bank’s official number to confirm.

Watch your bank account. Regularly check your statements and activate SMS/email alerts.

Report immediately. If you suspect any fraud or receive strange calls, inform your bank and cyber police quickly.

Use strong passwords and enable two-factor authentication for online banking.
