The monsoon seasons brings welcomed cooler air and rain, but also a significant increase of infections from both water and humidity. Rain water mixes with dirt and dust along with poor air quality to give rise to bacterial and viral growth. On top of that, humidity and constant dampness around the face makes germ exposure easier and more imminent. 1. Eye Pain or Discomfort
Don’t just brush off sharp eye pain or itching. If either blinking or bright light makes the pain worse you might have a corneal infection, alone or with other possible causes. Pain in one or both eye generally indicates more than simply irritation.
2.Red or bloodshot Eyes
If your eyes are red or bloodshot for more than one day, you could have an infection. One of the most common causes is conjunctivitis, commonly known as pink eye, but could also be keratitis or viral eye infection.
If the eyelids suddenly swell, this would be indicative of blepharitis or cellulitis. The warmth and tenderness around the eye might even suggest an infection deeper than just the eyelid. This case is urgent, and treatment must be sought immediately.
Watery eye usually indicates a viral infection, but a yellow or green discharge insinuates a bacterial one. Likewise, a thick discharge that gets crusted on the eyelids or lashes can mean a substantial infection as well.
Blurred vision or light sensitivity can also be a red flag. If your vision changes suddenly, the infection may affect your cornea. In these cases, you need to be seen right away!
Eye infections may seem small, but they can cause larger problems if left unattended. If you notice any of these signs, you should visit a doctor. It is important to start treatment immediately to prevent permanent damage!
