Fatty Liver Without Obesity? It’s Possible If You Sit All Day

Modern life keeps us sitting too long. Office workers spend about 9-10 hours at desks, and after that, sitting to watch TV or on cell phones is the norm. What is a Fatty Liver?

There are two types of fatty livers. Alcohol-related and non-alcohol-related (which Dr. Vishal Khurana, liver expert, explains as a disease in which fat builds up in the liver resulting in inflammation and a decrease in liver function leading to cirrhosis or cancer when not taken seriously) which can be linked to poor lifestyle habits.


 

Sitting Is The Problem

Studies show that sitting is a consequence of an inactive lifestyle increases fatty liver development (10). Inactivity lowers insulin sensitivity in muscles. This is problematic because insulin controls blood sugar levels, and poor insulin function builds fat in the liver and increases the risk of non-alcoholic fatty liver disease.

 

As few as 3 hours of sitting in a day contributes to increased fatty liver disease. Sedentary people, even thin people, are at risk for fatty livers. In urban settings, the access to junk food adds to the problem.

Prevent Fatty Liver

You can also stop or reverse fatty liver. Your health can be considerably improved by changing your daily habits. Avoid sitting for long periods of time. Stand and move every 30-60 minutes. Short walks go a long way. Light exercise is a benefit to your liver; try to do full-body moves like yoga or stretching every day.

 

Eat a Healthy Diet

Choose a balanced diet to help you fight fatty liver. This includes eating fruit and vegetables every day; eating meals that have whole grains for fiber; not eating fried foods or junk snacks; and cutting down sugar and sweets, which is a daily habit that is hard to do, but you can lower the fat in your liver by working to eat healthy. Drink water instead of soda. These small changes will greatly reduce the fat in your liver.

 

Exercise For Liver Health

Start moving your body every day. Walk for 30 minutes. You can also do light exercise that only includes basic body movements, or stretching. Yoga is good for the liver. Moving your muscles, builds and improves insulin sensitivity.

 

This means less fat builds up in your liver. It doesn’t matter how busy you are or if you are working, you can take small breaks when you can. If you can choose stair at the elevator, this is a better choice. Any one can take small steps to improve your health.
